Brow Grains Dyke
A really interesting site - the infrastructure from the old mill (since demolished) is pretty much intact, though not in use at the moment. The depleted stretch of water is between two 3 metre high weirs, so there should be no great issues with fish passes.
-
Hole Bottom
This water course once fed a mill - in a few places the old stone walls exist, but mostly the stream has reverted to nature. It's not a massive flow, but there's a good amount of vertical drop.
-
Hebble Brook
The Hebble Brook flows from the golf course at Ogen down through Mixenden to Halifax. Several mills are built along the brook's course, however where these images are taken at the top of the brook the potential is very limited as the brook is very flat.
-
Gibson Mill
Gibson Mill is a National Trust property near Hebden Bridge. Sited on Hebden Water in Hardcastle Crags the mill is a beautiful site and well worth a visit.
-
New Bridge Mill
New Bridge Mill site is a beautiful site at the entrance to Hardcastle Crags. There is quite a bit of existing infrastructure on the site (see the photos) and has good potential for a micro hydro installation. I must mention that whilst the site is beautiful and parts can be seen from public pathways, it is a privately owned site.
-
Lumb Bank
This site has excellent potential, with existing infrastructure (goits and a mill pond) in good condition. Colden Water has a good flow and the gross head is around 15 metres.
-
Haworth Old Road
A very intersting site that borders Crimsworth Dene at Lumb Falls, this site has several stone lined culverts running through the fields surrounding the property draining the moors above.
-
Marsden
This site is pretty isolated and a grid connection is expensive, so an off grid system is being considered. However the available flow in the main channel is not sufficient to allow for a very practical system - i.e. not year round.
-
Esholt Wastewater treatment plant
Esholt wastewater treatment plant - not part of this project, but a good example of a recent installation.
-
Merrydale, Slaithwaite
An old mill site that has been updated to run a crossflow turbine.
